Antioxidant and antifatigue effect of a standardized fraction (HemoHIM) from Angelica gigas, Cnidium officinale, and Paeonia lactiflora

In lab tests on muscle cells and in mice (Pharmaceutical Biology, 2021), the researchers reported these results. In citrinin-damaged L6 muscle cells, HemoHIM (at 500 micrograms/mL) significantly restored the levels of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, Txn, GPx, GSr and GCLC) compared with the damaged cells. In mice given HemoHIM at 500 mg/kg by mouth for three weeks, the animals lasted longer in the forced-swim test (about 280 seconds) and the rotarod test (about 552 seconds). In the same group, the swim-induced drop in glucose and glutathione rose roughly three-fold, and the rises in the fatigue/damage markers LDH and MDA were held down by about 1.6 and 2.1 times versus the control group. The authors described these as antioxidant and anti-fatigue effects in cells and animals.

Safety and Tolerability of HemoHIM: A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blind, and Parallel Clinical Trial in Healthy Human Volunteers

In a 2025 human trial (Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology), 96 healthy adults were randomly split into two groups of 48 and took 40 g a day of either HemoHIM or a placebo, twice daily for 8 weeks. The reported result was that there were no clinically significant changes in vital signs, in blood and urine biomarkers, or in adverse events between the groups. Chemical analysis identified active compounds in the mixture including chlorogenic acid, paeoniflorin, decursin and nodakenin. The authors concluded HemoHIM could be a safe natural compound mixture for human use over the period studied. This was a safety study, not a test of any health benefit.

Efficacy of an Herbal Preparation (Atomy's HemoHIM) against Ventilator-associated Pneumonia: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

In a 2023 ICU trial (Journal of Research in Pharmacy Practice), mechanically ventilated adult intensive-care patients were randomly assigned so that one group took a daily oral packet of HemoHIM for 7 days on top of standard care, while the other group had standard care only. The reported findings were: the rate of ventilator-associated pneumonia was lower in the HemoHIM group than in the control group (36.4 versus 57.4 episodes per 1,000 ventilation-days; P = 0.041; odds ratio 0.26, 95% confidence interval 0.070 to 0.944); the median time on the ventilator was shorter in the HemoHIM group (P = 0.033); and there were more pneumonia-free days in the HemoHIM group (log-rank P = 0.023). The authors said the supplement had beneficial effects in this single trial and that further, more comprehensive research is needed before firmer conclusions can be drawn.

Liver injury associated with the use of health supplement HemoHIM

Antioxidant effects of Paeoniflorin and relevant molecular mechanisms as related to a variety of diseases: A review

This is a 2024 review (Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy) of the isolated compound paeoniflorin, the main component of the Paeonia lactiflora (white peony) extract that is one of HemoHIM's three herbs. Summarising earlier research, the review reported that paeoniflorin has shown antioxidant, immune-modulating, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidepressant-like and nerve-protective effects in studies, largely by lowering oxidative stress. The authors' own earlier work had found it protected pigment cells and limited light damage. Across the literature it reviewed, beneficial effects were reported in the nervous, heart and blood-vessel, digestive and respiratory systems. These are findings about the isolated compound in general research, not about the HemoHIM product, which contains only a small marker amount of paeoniflorin.

Ameliorative effect of nodakenin in combating TNBS-induced ulcerative colitis by suppressing NFkB-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome pathway

In mice (Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, 2025), researchers tested nodakenin, a marker compound from Angelica gigas, one of HemoHIM's three herbs. Colitis was chemically induced with TNBS, and nodakenin was given by mouth at 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg. The reported results were that nodakenin lowered the disease-activity and tissue-damage scores and reduced the inflammation markers MPO, MDA and nitric oxide, while raising the antioxidant enzyme SOD compared with untreated colitis mice. At the 40 mg/kg dose it lowered the inflammation signals TNF-alpha, IL-6, NFkB (1.24-fold), iNOS (1.2-fold), COX-2 (1.98-fold), NLRP3 (1.78-fold), IL-1-beta (1.29-fold) and IL-18 (1.17-fold). The authors concluded nodakenin eased the induced colitis through the NFkB/NLRP3 inflammasome pathway. These are findings about the isolated compound in an animal model, not about the HemoHIM product.
